Red Bull’s 2015 Starcraft 2 BattleGrounds Grand Finals

Standard

2013, New York City. That is the last time, MC placed in a BattleGrounds tournament.

2014, Atlanta. This was Huk’s last time placing in BattleGrounds.

2015, Washington DC. This was the year that both MC and Huk would be crowned the champions of Red Bull’s BattleGrounds. Yes, you read that correctly, CHAMPIONS. This year’s RBBG was 2v2 in the new Legacy of the Void expansion, also known as Archon Mode. A game mode that pits, two teams of two players each controlling one army together in an attempt to dominate their enemy’s army.

MC and Huk vs. Bomber and MMA in the Grand Finals

And domination is actually what Huk and MC did this past weekend at BattleGrounds, only dropping a total of two out of 11 games. With those two games being in the first and last series against MMA and the returning champion, Bomber. Went into the event with the hopes that Bomber would take the win home again but after seeing how well Huk and MC were performing… I felt it in my body and soul, that they would be the victors of the 2015 Red Bull BattleGrounds.

It was great day, full of exciting action packed Starcraft 2 and a little bit of trash talking. Once again, congratulations to Huk and MC on becoming this year’s Red Bull BattleGrounds Archon champions. See you all again next year for more Starcraft from the nation’s capital!

DC Lan 15 @ Monster PC LAN Center

Standard

Yesterday, I attended my first DC Lan, though it was very small, it was fun, meet some great people and got some decent photos. I didn’t compete because I am ass at StarCraft 2 but after attending Red Bull BattleGrounds back in Sept and attending DC Lan 15, I definitely want to learn the art of StarCraft. After seeing the passion, hardwork, and the time that people put in to become good SC2 players, never ceases to amaze me.

Speaking of amazment, MyGrain of PSISTORM Gaming played amazingly well to win the whole LAN, with EndOfLine placing second and LuckyFool placing in third. Congratulations, you three!

Attending this LAN has shown me that I need to attend as many events and talk to has many people as possible. I love the energy and passion that each player and spectator shows at these events.Anyway this was just a small article to help me get back in my blogging, but I will definitely be blogging more as I attend events so watch for that. Who will rise and who will fall?

Going into an event as the number one seed must be the most nerve racking experience. Everyone is watching you, expecting you to perform flawlessly and win it all or to crumble under the  pressure of trying to be the best. Which of these will be case for Choi ‘Bomber’ ji Sung  on Saturday, November 8th at BlizzCon 2014? Bomber has had an incredible season placing 2nd at 2014 WCS Season 2 America, 1st at 2014 Red Bull Battle Grounds: Atlanta & Washington and 2014 WCS Season 3 America. Could another WCS champion title be what Bomber is looking to retire on?  His next biggest challenge is conquering the best of the best at Blizzcon to get the title before retirement but there is one man looking to turn that dream into a nightmare. His name… Jaedong.

Looking for his redemption from his lost back at WCS Season 2, Lee ‘ Jaedong’ Jae Dong is seeking to take out Bomber in the first round of Blizzcon. Being the 16th seed has to affect your mental state but does Jaedong have the mental will power to put his ranking behind him and take out  Bomber? Jaedong had a decent year placing 3rd/4th at IEM Season VIII Cologne, 2014 DreamHack Open:  Summer & Bucharest, IEM Season IX Shenzhen, and placing 1st World E-sport Championships 2014. Definitely not how he planned for his year to go but it’s better than most. But I’m sure ‘better than most’ is not where Jaedong wants to be, like any competitive player he wants to be the best.

Both these players want to win Blizzcon and be the world’s best but THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE! But who wants it more, the unsatisfied ‘Lionel Messi’ Zerg player or the world class ‘fuk scouting, get money’  Terran player. Yes, there are 14 others competing for the WCS champion but let’s be real… this is about the Bomber v. Jaedong rematch. The StarCraft 2 WCS Finals will begin on Nov 1st with the round 1 matches, Nov 7th will be the quarter finals, and Nov 8th will the semi-finals & finals.

Critical Hits From A Shower Head

Standard

This past weekend I went to the Starcraft 2 Red Bull BattleGrounds Finals at The Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC. The event was absolutely incredible; excellent venue, hyped crowd, entertaining casters, and  phenomenal games, yet this was all slightly ruined by the smell of excessive body odor. The scent was strongest when sitting or standing near a breeder or in the small three stalled restroom. Yes, I understand the restroom is not going to smell pleasant because that’s where people let it all out but with that being said, there is no reason I should be able to smell your day old sweat nor your armpits. While in the restroom and I was standing approximately 4 feet away from this guy and I could smell the foul odor seeping from underneath his arms and the mustiness of his neck. Without I doubt I knew this guy had not showered the night before, not only from his decaying body smell but because he also had not washed his hands after using the urinal. After I got a waft of that guy and saw that he did not wash hands, that was the moment I knew that I need to inform other games about decent hygiene. I use decent because depending on a person’s living conditions they may not be able to have the best or even good hygiene but decent is better than none.

Now, this was not the first event that I have experienced issue, I also ran into this problem at the MagFest 2013 event. That event was much worse because the event was open 24 hours for 3 days straight, meaning some people did not bathe for 3 days. So can you imagine being in a room full of unshowered, sweaty, musty, greasy faced gamers for 3 days? Sounds like a near death experience, huh? Or dare I say, smell like a near death experience. There was literally a force field and once you walked through force field you were smacked in the face by with hot air and a ridiculous amount of body funk. This is bound to happen during events, but these odors needs to be reduced especially during events that are longer than one day.

My biggest question is why are people not showering during these events? Do they not have access to a shower? Very doubtful, gamers like to travel in packs so it’s more than likely they are splitting a room with a number of friends. I also don’t think people would deny others a shower if they could smell their stench. Do they not smell themselves? Well this shouldn’t matter either because  whether or not you can smell your own body odor, you should still take the time to cleanse yourself. Plus, just because you can’t smell yourself doesn’t mean that other can’t smell you, so WASH YO SELF! Honestly the only reason I think people aren’t washing their behinds during these events because they are scared their wristband is going to fall off. That’s I f***king said it. I partly blame the people who are giving out the wristbands and badges, because they should be telling people the band with not rip if they shower. When they tell people,  “You need to keep this wristband on for the next (X amount) of days.” Then people think “Well then maybe I shouldn’t shower for this entire event and no one will ever notice.” No, you’re wrong because we do notice and you’re nasty as all hell for that. So if you are one of those people who are lucky enough to hand out bands during events, please info people they can still shower and their band will not rip (unless they pull it off.)

As gamers we should want to better present ourselves since the general population already have us stereotyped. We don’t need to give them anymore reasons to judge us in a negative way. Plus why would you want to want to be dirty , smelly, and sweaty?  If it’s because you don’t want people to be near then you shouldn’t be an event in the first place but you could also just tell them you don’t want to talk. I don’t know if most  y’all gamers are afraid of water but a shower isn’t like a hammer of dawn or  Invoker meteor, it’s not going to kill you.  All I’m trying to say is when you go out to a gaming event, please shower at the end of each night. You can call this a rant but I just thought I would inform you, that you need to shower because YOU REEK! GO SHOWER RIGHT NOW!
